Yorkshire Mediation Services is a charity based in West Yorkshire working to resolve conflict in the local community. We do this through offering mediation in a wide range of settings as well as providing training to provide people with the skills to mediate conflict themselves.
The organisation was formed from the merger of Mediation Leeds and Mediation Yorkshire. Both organisations have a long track record of working alongside partners, such as Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, Wakefield & District Housing, Housing Leeds (formerly Leeds ALMOs) and other social landlords across West Yorkshire to deliver mediation or conciliation services within the community, the workplace or within healthcare settings.
The mediation we provide can range from neighbour disputes to restorative justice and staff and volunteers have experience of working with complex and very sensitive cases to bring these to a resolution. For our neighbour dispute service, we recruit and train volunteers from the local community which we find gives them a greater understanding of the issues faced by those participating in the mediation.
Yorkshire Mediation Services is an accredited centre for delivering the Open College Network (OCN) Level 3 Award in Understanding Mediation. In addition, we also deliver training courses in areas such as conflict management and communication skills as well as providing a workplace mediation service which has a strong track record in helping resolve disputes within a broad range of settings.
The charity is run by a board of 6 Trustees and the team are based in Leeds. Most of our staff and Trustees are qualified mediators. We have a network of volunteers who support our work as co-mediators for neighbour disputes.
